Understanding Trauma & Sensory Processing Integration

5. oktoober @ 09:00 - 6. oktoober @ 17:15

Dear colleagues,

We warmly invite occupational therapists to join a unique two-day practical training with internationally recognised occupational therapist and author Marti Smith (OTR/L, USA):

“Understanding Trauma & Sensory Processing Integration”

📅 5–6 October

This training offers an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the connection between trauma, chronic stress, the nervous system and sensory processing, and to translate this knowledge into practical occupational therapy interventions.

For occupational therapists, the training is particularly valuable in working with children and adolescents whose behaviour, emotional responses or sensory needs may be connected to trauma, chronic stress or difficulties with regulation.

What you will gain

• A deeper understanding of how trauma and stress affect sensory processing and behaviour
• Practical ways to recognise a child’s nervous-system state and understand their “window of tolerance”
• Tools for distinguishing sensory overload from behaviour that may be interpreted as intentional or oppositional
• Practical strategies for adapting environments and activities according to an individual sensory profile
• Introduction and practical application of the KALMAR® assessment approach
• Case discussions and opportunities to apply the concepts in practice
• Interactive sensory experiences and practical exercises

Marti Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in occupational therapy and sensory integration, particularly in working with children affected by developmental trauma, stress and emotional or behavioural challenges. She is the author of The Connected Therapist, Sensory Healing After Developmental Trauma and co-author of Creating Connected Classroom.

For occupational therapists, this is an opportunity not only to learn new tools, but also to look at children’s behaviour through a body-based, trauma-informed and sensory perspective — and to strengthen the connection between assessment, environmental adaptation and meaningful participation.
